THIS THURSDAY...
UNIT 11 Hosts:
“NOVEMBER”
Featuring new work by Todd Atticus, Francis Brady, Sarah Ely, Jemma Skidmore and James Thurgood.
You are cordially invited to witness “November”, a flash-exhibition taking place this Thursday at Hackney’s Unit 11 space. With the nights drawing rapidly in and the shops announcing Christmas with abandon, this month begins with a flash of fireworks and closes with the opening of advent calendars.
To deviate from these well-trodden proceedings, Unit 11 has selected new work by 5 London-based artists for a short, sharp exhibition. Through a combination of open submissions and a presentation of work from members of The Ministry of Progress, this event aims to present a strong body of ideas spanning multiple art platforms.
There will also be free beer available on the night for those of you who need a little persuading to face these cold evenings out of doors.
The show will be open on Thursday night (November 4th) from 7pm to 10pm.
Originally opened in 2009, Unit 11 is a project space situated in the heart of East London and functions as a blank canvas for flash shows and one-off projects. It has recently shown new works by Cara Fielding and Todd Atticus. December will see the hanging of a new cycle of paintings by Brighton-based artist Aimee Parrott.
Unit 11 is a five minute walk from Hackney Central Overground station and is situated along or near to the following bus routes: 30, 38, 277, 48, 55, 253, 254, 106.

Bread and Bullfights
The deadline for entries for next week's exhibition has now passed. Thank you for everyone who submitted work, we will be selecting pieces over the next few days.
In the meantime, a friend of Unit 11 has given us heads-up on an exhibition being held in Camden this weekend. Here are the details..
Bull fighting has been explored throughout history within art, literature and politics. The symbolic act of bullfighting has permeated the imaginations of many artists including Picasso and Hemmingway. Within this exhibition I wish to explore both the physical act and its metaphorical significance through new sculptural, film and sound pieces.

Submissions for "November"
Unit 11 is looking for artists to feature in its latest exhibition “November”. The show will be a short, sharp event aimed at showcasing exciting new artworks by London-based artists, held to coincide with November’s First Thursday event in East London.
Interested artists should apply with a proposal of one piece of work which they would like to include. There are no stipulations on medium but the work has to have been made in 2010. Applicants should send images of the piece (or a written description if the work is not object-based) along with a short artist statement. The deadline for applications is Thursday October 28th at midday and all artists must be available during the day of November 4th to deliver and hang the work. Successful artists will be notified by October 31st. Unit 11 will take no commission from any sale.
